Water Dragon Swim Levels

The Water Dragon Swim Level System allows you and you child to keep track of their progress term to term. Each student will receive a certificate at the end of each term detailing the criteria that they have achieved in their current level, and the criteria that they are still progressing towards.

There are three categories in our levelling system, each with its own levels. These categories are Bubs and Tots (children under 3 - levels based on age), Preschool and school age (3 - 13 years- levels based on skill) and Adults and teens (14 and above - levels based on skill)

Bubs and Tots

For children 6 months to 12 months Teaching points in this level include: - Baby using breath control on cue when water is tipped over face - Baby submerging under water with breath control - Baby reaching for support and beginning to use their own strength to pull themselves out of the water

Baby Water Dragon

Little Water Dragon

For children 12 to 24 months Teaching points in this level include: - Using breath control on cue when water is tipped over face - Submerging under water with breath control - Back floating - Reaching for support and using their own strength to pull themselves out of the water - Using their own strength to push from the step or wall - Paddling and kicking for propulsion - Swimming independently for 3 metres - Safe entries and exits

Big Water Dragon

For 2 year olds Teaching points in this level include: - Using breath control on cue when water is tipped over face - Submerging under water with breath control - Back floating - Reaching for support and using their own strength to pull themselves out of the water - Using their own strength to push from the step or wall - Paddling and kicking for propulsion - Swimming independently for 3 metres underwater - Safe entries and exits - Push and glide from step or wall - Swim to teacher then roll to float on back - Swimming 6 metres independently with survival breaths

Green Water Dragon

For children that are learning to swim independently Teaching points in this level include: - Using breath control on cue when water is tipped over face - Submerging under water with breath control - Paddling and kicking to propel through the water - Floating on front and back for 5 seconds - Push and glide on front and back - Safe entries and exits - Independent swim 6 metres with survival breath

Blue Water Dragon

For children who can swim independently 6 metres Teaching points in this level include: - Kicking independently on front in streamline position 10 metres - Kicking independently on back 10 metres - Basic freestyle and backstroke technique - Basic breaststroke kick - Basic dolphin kick

Red Water Dragon

For children with a basic understanding of freestyle and backstroke Teaching points in this level include: - Freestyle with bi-lateral side breathing and good technique - Backstroke with good technique - Breastroke with correct timing and good technique - Butterfly (arms only) with good technique - Introduction to race starts, turns and finishes

Gold Water Dragon

For children needing to refine their strokes and improve their swim times Teaching points in this level include: - Refining technique in all strokes and asisting the swimmer in finding their individual technique - Practicing race starts, turns and finishes - Race practice for school carnival prep

Teen and Adult

Beginner

For people learning to swim independently Teaching points in this level include: - Breath control and submersion - Floating on front and back - Gliding in streamline position - Kicking and paddling to propel through the water - Swimming independently for 12 metres with basic freestyle technique - Kicking on back for 12 metres - Introduction to breaststroke kick

Intermediate

For people who can swim independently with a basic swim technique and would like to learn freestyle and backstroke Teaching points in this level include: - Freestyle with bilateral side breathing and good technique - Backstroke with good technique - Breaststroke with correct timing and good technique - Introduction to dolphin kick - Introduction to butterfly arms

Advanced

For people looking to refine their strokes and improve their swim time and endurance Teaching points in this level include: - Refining technique in all strokes and asisting the swimmer in finding their individual technique - Preparation for races and triathlons
